ELASTO Offers Two Year Supply Guarantee to Medical Device Manufacturers
Product reliability and formulation stability are critical requirements for the medical device manufacturer, that is why ELASTO, a leader in customer specific thermoplastic elastomer solutions, has introduced a long-term supply guarantee for a number of their Mediprene TPE compounds for the medical market.
Conny Karlsson, medical key account manager for ELASTO explained “Through the good co-operation and close dialogue we have with our raw material suppliers we have achieved agreements that will ensure a two year availability of un-changed product (excluding force majeure situations). Additionally, should a feedstock material be discontinued, we will also be able to cover the forecasted two year compound volume of our customers, allowing for qualification of a new material”.
ELASTO worked with their suppliers to define what a change is, they agreed that notification only in cases of changes to raw material specification is not sufficient. Any change of the chemical composition of the raw materials also needs to be announced by the supplier. Niklas Ottosson, medical technical manager continued, “It is this in-depth knowledge and strict selection policy of our raw materials that ensure our customers receive optimum materials with sure supplies”.
Mediprene TPE compounds are resistant to many fluids used in the healthcare environment and are sterilizable with gamma, EtO and steam. Representative grades have passed cytotoxicity tests according to ISO 10993-5 and are compliant with USP Class VI. Mediprene TPE materials are PVC, silicone and latex free, making them allergen free and a viable alternative to PVC based compounds. The long-term supply guarantee includes the Mediprene s, adhesion and oil-free series.
Niklas Ottosson has been invited to present a paper on ‘Medical Grade Thermoplastic Elastomers’ at the Thermoplastic Elastomers 2010 Conference, 26-27 October, Cologne.
